Blackberry Torch

Research in Motion have been creating Blackberry mobile phones for over a decade now and during that time the company has built up a solid, worldwide reputation for creating powerful devices that perform extremely well, particularly in the spectrum of business communications. This reputation has served the brand extremely well in the past but over the last couple of years there have been signs that the Canadian company are looking to branch out and make their phones more fun. The biggest indication of this yet was the release last year of the Blackberry Torch. This was to be Blackberry’s brand new high end phone and it featured a brand new touch screen phone and slide out keyboard to replace the famous QWERTY keyboard that features right underneath the screen on Blackberry phone’s such as the Curve and the Storm. This is all part of creating what is supposed to be, in the Word’s of the developers “the most fun Blackberry yet”.
The most noticeable feature of the Torch, apart from the great touch screen, is the new operating system Blackberry 6. They have changed plenty on this new OS but not so much that it is completely unrecognisable from the previous successful Blackberry software. It is, however a definite improvement and one of the most vital changes are the introduction of the new Webkit internet browser, which is far better than previous efforts, and a tweaking of the menu system that allows far less complicated navigation through the phone’s features than on the Blackberry’s of the past. Another great feature of the software is the inclusion of social networking on the phone. This comes in the form of the feed that allows you to look at all of the latest updates on sites like Facebook and Twitter all at once through this useful application. This move into the World of social networking looks to be proof that, with the Torch, RIM are looking to make their phones far less business orientated than they have been in the past.
